Karel Marynissen is a graduate of The Hague Royal Conservatory, where he majored in sound engineering and also studied the piano and jazz saxophone (with John Ruocco). During his years at the conservatory he worked as a trainee with Rob Acket for Belgian band De Nieuwe Snaar. He was also involved in several major productions with amongst others Michael Brecker, Maya Beiser and Steve Reich.
